What The Scarborough Group Does

How can the Group help me?
The Scarborough Group runs fixed 10 week courses for new members (Associates) wanting to improve their driving skills.
Associate members will be assigned an individual Observer (someone who has already passed the Advanced test) by the Group.
This Observer will pass on knowledge and advice to the new Associate, which will help towards passing the IAM test.
Observers and Associates meet on mutually convenient days and times over the 10 week period, all accompanied runs are in the Associate's own vehicle.
The completed course is followed by two check tests administered by the Group before finally taking the IAM test.

Guidance is available for both cars and motorcycles.
Note: An Observer riding his/her own machine follows Associate motorcyclists.

How does the Group Operate?
The Group holds monthly meetings, to which all are welcome. These meetings are publicised one week in advance in the local newspaper "The Scarborough Evening News" and/or "The Trader". These meetings are of a motoring nature and can include guest speakers. Meetings are usually held at Allatt House, West Parade Road, Scarborough. A three monthly newsletter produced by the group is distributed to all group members free.

On completing your purchase online (www.iam.org.uk) of "Skill for Life", you will receive a Group Directory covering all local IAM Groups for you to contact the one nearest to you (or the most convenient).
Each group organises their "Observed Runs" locally.
Most people can achieve "Test standard" after 6-10 observed runs so you could be "Test ready" in 6 -10 weeks.
