A page for bikers
The Scarborough and District IAM's Motorcycle Section is comprised of members who show an above average standard of riding which is safe, systematic, and progressive.
Our objective is to assist motorcyclists in getting more out of their riding by passing the IAM Advanced Motorcycle Test, a nationally recognised measure of riding skill.
The training is provided under the IAM Skills for Life scheme and is mostly based on and around the Highway Code, and Motorcycle
Roadcraft - The Police Rider's Handbook.
All our training is one-to-one and carried out at your own pace.
The riding guidance is provided by Observers -- experienced riders who have passed both the IAM Advanced Motorcycle Test and an Observer training course.
They are keen motorcyclists who have been specially trained to share their riding experience, skills and knowledge with you, to help you pass the IAM Advanced Motorcycle Test. The group is a registered charity and its Observers are all unpaid volunteers.

Associates will have a series of observed rides with their Observer at a mutually convenient date and time, and typically lasts between one and two hours. An Associate prepares for the IAM Advanced Motorcycle Test by undergoing a series of observed rides.
When the Observer is satisfied that the Associate has reached the standard a Check Test is carried out by a Senior Observer. If this goes well, the Associate is advised to apply for the test.
The group also has an active social side, with full day midweek and weekend runs throughout the summer. There are also longer trips to explore great roads further afield.

Anyone with an interest in advanced riding is welcome to join a rideout to find out for themselves what we can offer. The day rides usually cover 150-200 miles with coffee stops and lunch.
Highlight of the 2007 summer was our weekend trip to the Scottish Borders at the end of April. Twelve riders and two pillions took part in the ride and we enjoyed two nights at the Graham Arms Hotel, Longtown.
Next May a group of members are heading for the Ardennes region of Belgium for five days enjoying the great roads and possibly a ride around the Nurburgring.
